Atlantic Team
Patrick Burke, Managing Director
Educated at St Michael's School, Jersey and Stowe School in Buckinghamshire, Patrick gained an Honours Degree in Hotel and Catering at the University of Surrey. This was followed by management experience at two of London's leading five star hotels – The Carlton Tower in Knightsbridge and the Intercontinental at Hyde Park Corner. In 1987 Patrick succeeded his father as Managing Director of The Atlantic and soon embarked on a development programme to upgrade every aspect of the property – a process which led to The Atlantic's admission into membership of Small Luxury Hotels of the World in 1993 – and continues to this day. Past Chairman of the International Board of SLH, Patrick is married to Treena, also a Director of The Atlantic Hotel and they have three sons – Harry, George and Tom.
Simon Maguire, Hotel Manager
Simon started his career with Firmdale Hotels, which include the Covent Garden Hotel, the Soho Hotel and the newly opened Crosby Hotel in New York, as a graduate trainee in 2002. After completing the graduate programme he progressed through the company taking up various roles such as Night Manager, Reception Manager, Front Office Manager and most recently Deputy General Manager. His main aim is to further raise the already high standards at The Atlantic and to ensure that the hotel remains the friendliest and most welcoming on the island. Simon relocated to Jersey from London with his wife Rachel and is keen to make the most of island life.
Anna Robins, Events Manager
Anna Robins rejoined The Atlantic in February 2009 as Events Manager having previously been employed at the hotel from 2001 until 2004 as Receptionist and Head Receptionist. Anna returns with a greater understanding and knowledge of Jersey as a conference destination after spending the last five years specialising in conferences and events at two local hotels. She is very excited about resuming her career at The Atlantic and especially looks forward to offering clients tailor made packages which include Michelin-starred dining.
Hayley Brockwell, Reservations Manager
A native islander, Hayley first joined The Atlantic after leaving college in 1982 and has now been with the hotel for 25 years. Currently Reservations Manager, she has experienced the evolution from manual bookings to a computerised system, the internet and e-mail, and she enjoys the day to day variety of her role and the contact she has with old and new guests. She loves The Atlantic's family atmosphere and friendly team, as well as Jersey's tranquil lanes and spectacular views. Away from The Atlantic, Hayley divides her time between visiting her family's timeshare in Tenerife and walking along the island's cliff paths. In 2005 she joined 1,400 others in the Itex Around Island Walk in aid of Jersey Hospice, walking nearly 48 miles in one weekend.
Martinho de Sousa, Restaurant Manager
As befits his Portuguese roots, Martinho has a deep love for great food, fine wine and lively conversation. As Restaurant Manager of the hotel's award winning Ocean Restaurant, Martinho believes that his role is to offer guests help and advice on menus and ingredients discreetly and unobtrusively. In a career that began in Jersey, took Martinho home to Madeira and back full circle to The Atlantic, he is excited by the range and quality of local produce.
Mark Jordan, Head Chef
Mark decided at school that he would pursue a career as a chef, and his first job saw him spend three years with Keith Floyd before he met Jean Christophe Novelli. Novelli had a profound effect on Mark as he inspired him to create food of a Michelin Star standard by introducing him to the best combinations of ingredients which appeal to the five senses of cooking: smell, taste, texture, touch and sight. Mark joined The Atlantic as Head Chef in July 2004 from Gilpin Lodge Hotel near Windermere in The Lake District, having fallen in love with Jersey on his first visit. During a 20 year career, Mark has worked with some of the culinary world's leading lights, and it is this experience which has helped him to propel Ocean to its Michelin Star status.
